Qatar expands West Africa offering
GHANA’S CAPITAL town, Accra, has been joined with a brand new service from Middle Eastern giant Qatar Airways to its hub in Doha. The four-times-weekly link, launched on September 29, has been controlled by a two-class, 254-seat Boeing 787-8, A7-BCL (c/n 38330). On both in and outbound legs, flights QR1415/1418 route via a stopover at Lagos, Nigeria, 250 kilometers to the east of Accra. The link is flown on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group chief executive, commented:”We announced our intention to start flights to Accra at January 2020 and while the pandemic has marginally delayed these plans, it has not stopped us from fulfilling our commitment to passengers in Ghana. We anticipate working closely together with our partners in [the African nation] to grow this route and support the recovery of trade and tourism in the area.”
Qatar’s competition, Emirates, joins Accra together with the Gulf on a current four-times-weekly foundation using 777-300ERs which route through Abidjan in the Ivory Coast. (Photo Flickr Commons/
